Validation of cardiac PDE modeling

While Navier-Stokes is beyond doubt a correct set of equations, electrophysiology of wave propagation in cardiac tissue is modeled by a set of phenomenological reaction-diffusion equations.

2D spiral waves

The experimental validation of numerical predictions for cardiac tissues and cell cultures is the absolute prerequisite to improvement of existing models. Before simulating 3D heart, one needs to validate a range models, from 3D tissues slices to 1D fibers.

3D heart tissue - scroll wave dynamics
2D heart imaging - ventricular tachycardia spiral wave, measured
2D spiral wave - measured vs. simulated
1D PDE cable modeling - alternans as a function of pacing period (Purkinje model)
1D map modeling - restitution, alternans
